Venturing Out Into the Hudson Valley
You have many options for exploring the Hudson Valley while maintaining social distance, only a short drive from the Inn. Wherever you go, remember to bring a mask with you and frequently wash your hands.
Hiking Trails
Enjoy an invigorating hike through nature and take in the scenery of the Hudson Valley. Many outdoor trails and state parks remain open, perfect for a day trip from the Stagecoach Inn. The historic Appalachian trail runs through Orange County for about 35 miles. You'll pass by scenic views of Greenwood Lake and the popular Trailside Museum and Zoo.
Walking from Goshen, you can access the Heritage Trail, a 14 mile-long multi-use trail. This trail offers attractive vistas and plenty of room for walking, biking, and rollerblading. While on the trail, you'll pass the trailhead for the 187-acre Birnberg Preserve. Home to a variety of amphibians and birds, the preserve trail loops through woodlands and wetlands with mountain views.
Shopping
The Stagecoach Inn is less than twenty minutes away from several unique shopping experiences. For name-brand stores, you can find great deals at Woodbury Common Premium Outlets. Shop designer fashion, jewelry, sportswear, and more at a discount. The outlets have wide outdoor paths between the stores to help with social distancing.
If you're looking for something one-of-a-kind, take a trip to Sugar Loaf. The Art & Craft Village is a charming street home to art galleries and shops. You'll find all kinds of handmade crafts by local artisans. There are also dozens of quality antique stores to peruse throughout Orange County.
For the quintessential Hudson Valley small-town experience, visit the historic Village of Warwick. Surrounded by farms and vineyards, downtown Warwick is home to many boutiques and shops, as well as great dining. Stroll through the walkable business district and admire the parks and historic buildings while you shop.
Food and Drink
What makes a Hudson Valley staycation extra special is all the delicious food grown in the region. Visit a farmers' market on your way home from the Inn for fresh groceries, flowers, and more. You’ll find farm-fresh produce, meat, and dairy from local farmers. At the Stagecoach Inn, we love to use ingredients sourced from local farms and farmers’ markets in our restaurant menu, such as fresh corn from Sunflower Valley Farm.
The Hudson Valley is also home to many award-winning wineries, distilleries, and breweries. The member wineries of Shawangunk Wine Trail are open, and many are a short drive from the Stagecoach Inn, including the historic Brotherhood Winery. Black Dirt Distillery and Orange County Distillery make unique liquors with local ingredients. If you like hard cider, there are several cideries to visit, including Angry Orchard in Walden.
History and Culture
The Hudson Valley offers dozens of historic sites to visit, including several Revolutionary War landmarks. Many houses and buildings still standing today are older than the United States of America (including our own Inn, established in 1747). Take a walk from the Inn through downtown Goshen and admire the historic architecture.
The United States Military Academy at West Point is a must-see for American history and architecture. Originally established in 1778 as a military post during the Revolutionary War, West Point stands today as a leader in Army education. Book a guided tour or visit the West Point Museum for an in-depth experience, then enjoy dinner and drinks on the grounds at MacArthur’s Riverview Restaurant or Zulu Time Rooftop Bar & Lounge. Other nearby sights include Museum Village in Monroe and Washington’s Headquarters in Newburgh.
For a unique art experience, visit an outdoor sculpture park. Storm King Art Center is known for its larger-than-life sculptures on 500 acres. They are currently open as an outdoor-only experience with limited capacity. Visitors are welcome to bring their own food for a picnic or order a boxed lunch in advance. Other outdoor art installations include Pacem in Terris in Warwick and the Seligmann Center for the Arts in Sugar Loaf.
